Rules - MDD
Transition Periods
The rules in the Directive provide for a transition period during which the manufacturers were given the opportunity to choose whether they wanted to market their products according to the present legislation or the new rules.
For active, implantable devices the transition period expired on December 31, 1994, while the transition period for the general Directive expired on June 14, 1998.
After these dates the Directives must be complied with and medical devices that come within one of the Directives mentioned above must carry the CE marking as a visible proof of conformity with the requirements of the relevant Directive.
